Your home is supposed to be a comforting space that is neat and clean and makes you feel comfortable and relaxed. However, sometimes life gets busy, and our home begins to look as hectic and chaotic as we feel, and even our custom closet systems end up looking disorganized and messy. That doesn’t have to be the case though, if you build in some daily habits to keep your custom closet system looking picture-perfect.
Here are 5 daily habits that will help to keep your custom closet system tidy all the time.
You would be amazed at how much you can accomplish in five minutes. It is enough time to pick up and hang discarded clothing, throw out any new bits of trash, and put shoes back where they belong. It can certainly be enough time to make a difference in keeping your closet looking neat and tidy.
If you commit to spending five minutes every evening giving your custom closet a quick clean, you will maintain a neat, organized space. So, put on your favorite song (or two), and spend those few minutes giving your custom closet a quick clean
By keeping a small garbage can right in your closet, it will give you an easy way to get rid of any trash so it doesn’t end up on the closet floor. So often, we get home and find we have bits of paper or wrappers in our pockets. Have a small receptacle close by so you can empty those pockets and keep your closet tidy at the same time.
There are so many cute little garbage cans available nowadays, you can easily find the perfect one to match your closet decor. You can also choose between a can that would sit on the floor in the closet or a hanging bin mounted to the wall.
Let’s face it, as much as we love the coordinating hangers that we purchased for our new custom closet system, we don’t always love the process of hanging up our clothes, especially if we’re in a rush. Sometimes the messiest items in the closet are simply pieces of clothing that were discarded in a heap on the floor.
Get some large hooks, and fasten them to any free wall space in your closet. That way, as a quick and easy tidy you can simply hang up clothing on the hooks instead of always using a hanger.
You don’t want to get into a habit of leaving all of your clothing on the hooks, but this can be a quick fix until you can spend more time hanging the clothing on hangers.
To cut down on dust and dirt accumulating in your closet, you want to not only organize the closet regularly but also give it a good cleaning. To make that even more convenient for you, keep a small bin of cleaning supplies in the closet for easy access.
The bin does not have to contain a huge amount of cleaning products; mainly you would want to include some rags for dusting, a good cleaning spray, and a small dustpan set. You wouldn’t need much more than that, depending on how you like to clean.
This is the biggest habit to develop if you want to keep your custom closet system looking neat and organized. Make decluttering a frequent chore, and regularly scan your belongings to see if there is anything that you could give away, donate, or throw out.
HGTV says to be ruthless in this task and to look at your pieces of clothing in terms of what they mean to you now in the present, not what they might have meant to you in the past. If it is not something you use regularly, get rid of it.
Building simple cleaning habits can make it so much easier to keep your custom closet system looking neat and organized. Try incorporating one or two of these habits into your daily routine, and see if you notice a difference in how tidy your closet looks.
